Happier With Less

Ever since I started working on my house, I’ve felt more relaxed, more grounded—just happier. I wasn’t unhappy before, but spending time in nature, getting in sync with its rhythm, feels like a return to something real.

All of this is part of a larger shift in my life. I’ve reduced my expenses to almost nothing so I can focus on creating art. I live on public land, build using timber framing with minimal materials, and eat simple dried foods—no fridge, no vehicle, no debt. I have a solar panel and some car batteries, and I’ll slowly expand that setup as needed. Baby steps.

In many ways, I’m opting out of the consumer lifestyle. I recently watched a video about Japan’s “Low Desire” generation—young people choosing not to climb the corporate ladder, not buying homes, not chasing more. Just… existing differently.

Maybe I’ve landed in the same mindset. Or maybe this is simply what happens when you stop trying to fill the emptiness of modern life with things.

Whatever the reason, I’m happier with less. And that feels like enough.

If you’re into off-grid living, DIY building, or art that challenges the norm, I’d love to connect.
